Call of Duty: Black Ops, is Treyarch’s first Call of Duty title since Call of Duty: World at War. The developer has spent a long time on Black Ops, and the multiplayer reveal showed that Black Ops will be a very fun and suspenseful game. According to 1up.com, Black Ops has already sold more pre-orders than Modern Warfare 2 did last year and is expected to sell 12 million copies this holiday season. There are 5 main features from the September 1st reveal that stuck out as original and very exciting.

  1. COD Points

COD Points, or more conveniently, CP, are Treyarch’s brand new currency for Call of Duty multiplayer, says Kotaku. CP can earned by simply playing the game’s multiplayer, but are also earned by completing Contracts. Contracts are challenges that are must be completed within a certain amount of game-time. These challenges can be rewarded for getting kills or killstreaks, using team work, or by completing random and unique tasks. The third way of earning CP is through Wager Matches.

Instead of getting new weapons by ranking up, you now use CP to buy items usually acquired by ranking up. This includes guns, attachments, killstreaks, and facepaints.

  1. Wager Matches

In Wager Matches, players must bet their CP on their placing in the top 3 of the Wager Match game mode. The first is “One in the Chamber”. In this mode, each player starts with a pistol with only one bullet. If a player shoots another player, he will receive another bullet. If he misses, he is left with only a knife.

In “Gun Game”, each player starts with the same gun, a pistol. When a player gets a kill, he advances to the next level’s gun. The first player to level 20 wins.

In the next game mode, “Sharpshooter”, all players start with the same randomly selected gun. The players keep the gun for a random amount of time, then switch to the next random gun. Each kill results in a perk and later a score multiplier.

Finally, we have “Sticks and Stones”. Everyone spawns with an interesting combination of weapons- a crossbow, ballistic knife, and a tomahawk. The tomohawk has an interesting twist- if you are hit by it you are instantly bankrupt.

  1. Character Customization

Since the announcement of Black Ops, we’ve known Treyarch is completely redesigning the “Create-a-Class” mode with “Create-a-Class 2.0” Players can use this new function to control how their players appear, a first for Call of Duty. This includes the new facepaints, camos, and the many ways of customizing the reticle on your gun. This means that the red dot on your gun can be customized to any one of many shapes and colors, all of which can be found here.

  1. Killstreaks

Black Ops’ killstreaks will be similar to those of Modern Warfare 2. However, Treyarch has made a few changes. This includes the removal of a game ending killstreak (modern Warfare 2’s Tactical Nuke). They have also decided to require you to get all your kills for killstreaks yourself, without the help of other killstreaks. All killstreaks and their descriptions can be found here.

Treyarch’s last CoD title was fun and brought many new ideas to the Call of Duty series, and Black Ops is already looking like it will be much better.
